Summer job - bench mark recovery, Denali Park

This seems to be targeted at students in surveying and GIS programs, but I'm not sure it's limited to those. Applications close Feb 2.

 

Find existing 1968 bench marks, run static GPS sessions, and report.

Participants will engage in benchmark recovery, which includes:

 

Reconnaissance: locating NGS passive control monuments via GIS and field work;

Recovery: executing survey of recovered benchmark with proper

documentation for submission to OPUS shared solutions;

Report: submission of findings to NGS and DENA GIS Specialist.

You would have to be crazy to do that job. Have to carry a gun 24/7 or the bears will have you for lunch....

A friend's son did a similar summer job in Alaska a few years ago where he counted some sort of wildlife (salmon, I think). They seemed to have assumed he knew what he was getting into because on the first day they handed him a gun and bear repellent and said "good luck". Luckily he WAS ready for the job, and loved it!
