+naj2000us Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 I'm on my way to Virginia next week... and of course I've ran my pq's... but I was wondering if there was a way to find ONLY geocaches at rest stops. I will find my drive going from 6 hours to ten hours easy.. because I will stop for every cache along the way..lol Quote
Keystone Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 I see you live in Georgia. It's a safe bet that every rest stop in Georgia and North Carolina has at least one cache. It's an equally safe bet that none of the rest stops in Virginia have any caches, as the VA DOT prohibits them. Techniques for spotting rest area caches include: - Find one cache at a rest area, then see if it's on a bookmark list like "North Carolina Rest Stop Caches" or "Caches along I-40." - Scroll the cache map along your route, in satellite view, at a zoom level that makes it easy to spot the rest stops as you move down the highway. Toss those caches onto a bookmark list as you locate them. - Run a "caches along a route" pocket query, so that you pick up not only rest stop caches, but also "quick caches" at highway exits -- hidden at restaurants, park and ride lots, and other convenient locations near the interchange. An example includes the "JOE" series (Just Off Exit). Quote
+pppingme Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Caches along a route are you best bet, you would find anything in rest stops as well as other potential stops along the road, for fast food, or gas, or whatever other reason you may stop. Quote
