Which Gps?

Hi everybody,

I know this has been asked before but I wanted to refresh the topic because new gps devices have come out. So,which gps should I get? Or, should I get the app?

I'd recommend just getting whichever new-ish handheld Garmin GPS is in your comfortable price range.

 

The rest of the thread will be a shouting match about brands and various bells and whistles, but all you need is a sturdy handheld GPS that won't die if you drop it in a puddle.

The other debate will be App vs dedicated GPS.

 

I would get the app (or at least an app) anyway if you have a smartphone.

 

Personally I use a GPS (Oregon 600), but also have the iPhone app.

I use a GPS but also my phone app when needed (or the GPS isn't available). See if you can use/borrow someone's to see what you like/don't like. Surprised this has been on here an hour and still hasn't been moved.

Depends on your style and interests and plans. If a person plays the game mostly in cities/towns, drives a car and never stays overnight on a trail I think there's not much sense to purchase a handheld device. A smartphone with one of numerous apps will be sufficient (most probably the person already owns it). If it's about hiking in mountains for several days or more then buying some waterproof handheld receiver with some additional AA batteries would be a better deal.
