Geocoin Movement

We're new to geocaching and need a bit of help. We've read the guides on trackables and came to the conclusion that when we found any, we should log it as retrieved and move it on to another cache. There's a geocoin in a cache near us so we were going to move it along. It doesn't have a goal. However, when we read the journey of the coin, it seemed to have only been moved by the owner of the coin. We've noticed on a few geocoin logs that people move them from cache to cache over a long period of time with nobody else moving it. We'd appreciate any advice on this please!

Thanks and happy caching!

:)

Coins are for trading, from one cache to another. A cacher has either had the coin made, bought or traded that coin. They have left it there to begin it's trip. You could retrieve it and move it to some distance Cache.

With that said, you should try to leave something of interest in the Cache you just removed the coin from.

Good luck on your decision ..

Trackables -TB's and Coins- are not swag, and there is not need to 'trade' if you take one, or leave one... (However, if you wish to leave swag when you take a trackable, that's nice! :) )

Often owners will move a trackable around to start its journey, before leaving it in a cache for others to move on.

Geocoins in caches are there as travelers and need to be moved. That is their primary goal. Not all have mission statements which are not orders on where or how the traveler ought to be moved but more like requests. You do what you can: getting a coin to the Internation Space Station may not be within the capability of every cacher. As stated above they are not to be traded for, they are not swag, but moved.

It is best not to keep a traveler longer than 2 weeks from retrieval to drop off and to offset that some cachers will keep the thing moving by dropping it off in the various caches they visit and retrieve them again - also known as dipping, which is okay within reason: hoarding is not nice.

Geocoin owners may dip as much as they like. Some use certain coins as mileage trackers for their caching activities. As a coin owner you can pretty much do what you like with it. As a finder all you can do is enjoy it for a short time and move it along.

Thank you for asking.
