Logged trackable in wrong cache - I'm new to all of this, help!

Hi all,

I found my first Trackable the other day and took it with the intention of helping it along its journey. Managed to log the fact that I had taken it (Godison Fountain, Hampstead Heath, London) and dropped it off in a new cache (Centennial Totem Pole, Virginia Water, UK) yesterday. However in a frenzied panic I have just logged that I put the trackable in a different, albeit nearby, cache. What should I do?! I tried to log/retrieve it from he erroneous cache and then log/took to the right one, but I have no record of the code to hand so I cant do that.

Cheers, Ackenacre

1 Don't panic.

2 Don't worry, we all make mistakes!

3 DONT try to correct things by deleting logs.

What to do.

Remember to make a note of the trackables number next time!

Options now, as you don't have the trackables number is:

Contact the trackabels owner and explain, they might let you have the trackables code.

Post a NOTE log on the cache page it's in, and the one that it is listed in, and the TB's page, and explain the situation... The next cacher might let you know the number, or may just help to 'correct' things for you.

As the caches are not that far apart, it wont upset any mileages for the TB

Good advice above....

Also if the caches involved are not too far away, you could go back and pick it up and put it in the cache it is logged into.

Tip :- get a small notebook just for geocaching to make cache notes in and write down tracking numbers.

You'll be suprised how often you will refer to it.

And Welcome to Geocaching!!
