+niraD
Garmin's chirp is a wireless transmitter designed for geocaching. It can be programmed to transmit information (coordinates, hints, etc.). Certain Garmin GPS receivers can receive chirp transmissions. Quote Link to comment
+kunarion
Hi I was just wondering what a Garmin Chirp is, and what it does. thanks Here's a good info sheet: http://ggaonline.org/eve/forums/a/ga/ul/2507033595/Chirp_by_LZ33.pdf Maybe you've seen a Multi Cache that has a little metal tag in a tree, used as a cache stage with coordinates to the next tag. Now imagine walking along a trail and having all of that tag info automatically appear as a waypoint on your GPS. That's what a Chirp can do. You don't find the actual Chirp device, the idea is to just be in the vicinity and get data wirelessly. The info sheet says that the Garmin 550 can't save Chirp data, but now it does, as a waypoint. My one active Chirp doesn't have coordinates entered (long story), so it will be the very last waypoint by distance. If you have a long list of waypoints, it could be tough to keep Chirp waypoints organized, but at least they're saved. Quote Link to comment
thenewmeme6
I just got a new Garmin GPS for half price from comet, if I receive any of these chirps I'll find it pretty interesting. Quote Link to comment
