+RubyandCo
Hi there Hope this is the right place to post this Just came back from a trip to Germany from the UK I use a Blackberry with Cachesense - as we were out of the country I pre loaded PQ onto it and disabled data services as the cost can be a bit silly. However it seemed to take a few days to settle down and work properly as at first it couldnt pick up the Satellites - am I right that Blackberrys and probably other smart phones uses the data services to help pin point where it is and tell the GPS where to look ? If that's the case I guess it might be best to try and get a roaming deal for next time I go ? On the same subject do stand alone GPS have the same issue or are they made in a different way so they can lock onto Satellites wherever ? Thank you in advance Mark Edited August 13, 2013 by RubyandCo Quote Link to comment
+RubyandCo
All systems that use GPS can lock onto satellites wherever they are provided they have a clear view of the satellites. Most though take longer if you've moved some distance since you last had 'lock', that time decreases if the GPS remains stationary until it achieves lock. Thank you Quote Link to comment
+splashy
BB isn't the best system for this and might NEED assistant gps service via Gsm network for a new satellite lock. Also keep in mind, if the gps location is shifted more then about 500 miles while the gps is off, it can take sometimes 20 minutes to lock on satellites. Quote Link to comment
+ashreigney
I use a blackberry q10 and find it spot on with data turned off and finds satellites very quickly Quote Link to comment
