billwerth
I reached into a cache and pulled a few items out, and to my surprise pulled out a fish hook that was stuck in my finger. Also in this cache was a disposible lighter. Maybe these items were put in by mistake. The fish hook could have been attached to something else. Or maybe someone is emptying the contents of their pocket into the cache? Do you think these items are acceptable? What else have you seen in a cache that you would consider dangerous? +Jamie Z
I've found a number of lures in caches, some in cases, others weren't. I think it's awfully dumb for someone to put an uncased fishing lure into a cache... but people do it. Oh well. Jamie Quote Link to comment
+Hiemdahl
I had considered putting some match boxes that I brought back from Europe in a cache here in Texas. However, considering the dry conditions in the summer, I decided that if some kids found it and started playing with matches....., it could be a problem. Hiemdahl Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
I see no problem with the lighter. The fishing lure probably should have had the hooks taped or otherwise shielded so finders don't get a hook in their hand. Cape Cod Cacher
I leave handmade bluefish jigs in a couple of my caches near saltwater. I staple a bit of thin cardboard over the hook (in the middle of the'J') to keep them safe. They're also bagged. Sounds like someone just wasn't thinking with the one you found. Put a bit of wood, like a twig, over the hook in the future. Quote Link to comment

+armed to the teeth
A freind of mine has joked around about making a travel bug out of a rubber adult novelty toy, if you know what I mean. He wants to make a cache for it at the top of a mountain, where no kids could find it. I've got him talked out of it for the time being. Quote Link to comment
