+BlueDeuce
GSAK can slice and dice pertinent information into limited space. For example No Sugar Tonight In My Coffee D 1.5, T 1.5 cache size Micro is translated to NoSugarT-AAM. You just need to know the code. Quote Link to comment

GSAK has the ability to let the user set the length of the smartname and to drop certain words like the, this, a, etc. Not sure, but your probably limited to 16 characters on the etrex. GSAK is not free, but the $30 cost to register is peanuts compared to what the program can do. More info at (link). Quote Link to comment
+k7da
oh, i have gsak but do not know all the stuff it will do. that said, i tried the smart name and loaded the pq again but the caches still come up with gc# rather then names. is there something in the etrex that changes the way they are displayed? this unit belongs to a friend and i had helped hi several month ago get it working and at the time caches were loaded that showed with names. i thought that maybe it was something to do with gsak but upon loading a cache from gc.com it still displays with gc# vice names. +k7da
thanks that does work. but that leaves me puzzled as this is the first time using smartnames and there was a time that caches were loaded and displayed with names and not gc# wonder how that was done? huuumm dave Quote Link to comment

+redwoodkestrel
In the Etrex go to Menu > Setup > Geocaches > Appearance > Set it to "Show Names" instead of "Show Codes" Quote Link to comment
