+walkergeoff and wife
I have been using my GPS12 since I began caching. It is very reliable and accurate. Its only major problem is that it is not so good under tree cover, the needle (almost) consistently pointing in exactly the opposite direction to the cache. I noticed this twice yesterday. Hence my question - which is the best GPSr under tree cover? Quote Link to comment
+Gitchee-Gummee
Any answer will be subjective as most all of the more recent GPSr units use better antennae. It really would be difficult to single out a specific unit that stands out that much better than others of the same generational release. This is of course, regarding consumer-grade units. Commercial, industrial and some military units are a different story altogether, along with a correspondingly different price tag. Quote Link to comment
+Walts Hunting
All the newer units are better than that one undercover but all units degrade under tree cover somewhat. Giving us your price range would help. Quote Link to comment

Giving us your price range would help. At the moment I am just interested. I have got used to my GPS12 over the years and can generally cope with this problem. If it ever packed up I would have to replace it. Then I would see how much I had to spend! :-) Quote Link to comment
Clan Riffster
The GPS12 is an amazingly tough device. You may be using it till the proverbial four equestrians come mucking about. So long as you are used to its quirks, no worries. As others have opined, the only downside for you is that it uses a dodgy, antiquated antenna. if you do decide to upgrade, next week or next decade, antenna quality is the first thing I'd look at.
