Anhrak
Hey everyone. I just reached over 30 caches, and I wanted to use a monument of my street as a virtual cache location. I got all coordinates, everything prepared, but just noticed that I couldn't make a virtual cache at all. Is this a bug, or premium feature (this is not listed in the premium benefits list), or is there a special way to make these? I hope I can get a quick answer guys, I can't wait to publish my first cache. Cheers, Anhrak Quote Link to comment
+Gitchee-Gummee
Quick answer....... You don't. Virtual caches have been disallowed for some time now. Quote Link to comment

I wanted to make one. @Pup, I couldn't have known the term for that kind of cache. but why has it been disabled? I actually enjoyed doing those. I actually enjoyed doing those. You mean the one you submitted? When a reviewer rejects a listing they disable the listing to get it out of the submission queue. You can recycle the listing into a new cache listing and re-submit it. In order to use the steel monument in a cache you can make it a answer to a question waypoint in a multicache and have the final cache at some other place. You get to draw attention to the monument, get to use things on the monument, like number of poles, etc., to calculate the final location coordinates. Quote Link to comment

Anhrak
premium is something I already consider getting, once I have more time for geocaching and cleared out Hoorn (netherlands) a bit more, but I wanted something nice to be as my first cache. Well, let's dig up an ammo chest =(. Quote Link to comment

I actually enjoyed doing those. Short answer. Virtuals were disallowed because they became problematic. People were making virtuals for really silly things like discovering a dead animal carcass in the desert. The website tried to tell people that they had to create quality virtuals but no one could agree on what quality was. It became a constant debate between cache hiders and the reviewers who had to evaluate the caches for quality. In the end, they decided that they did not want their reviewers to be the arbitrators of cache quality and simply discontinued the cache type. Quote Link to comment
