Oregon 450 problem with compass on poi's, help

When following the directions in the manual by going to "whereto" stopping navigation, going back to "whereto" and selecting a point of interest Eg a local restaurant, selecting "GO" then "X" then "compass" and the compass points to a geocache. How can I get the compass to point to and show me distance to something besides a geocache.

You need to set up a separate profile for waypointing and select a dashboard that points to the selected waypoint and not the nearest cache. This drove me nuts when I first got my Oregon. It's a lot easier to switch profiles than it is to switch out dashboards. I moved my Profile Change button to the first screen page to make it easier to switch profiles quickly.

Don't use any of the "geocaching" dashboards. Instead, use one of the "data fields" dashboard for example, and either use the compass screen or set one of the data fields to "pointer".
