+ras_oscar Posted January 16, 2012 Share Posted January 16, 2012 (edited) I have a Garmin Etrex Vista HCX that I am very happy with. I have been using POI loader to install queries on the data card. The only compaint I have is that the data window for custom points of interest is very large but the longer hints are often cut off. The full data window available is not used completely. I understand that this is due to a limitation of 80 characters in the Custom Points of Interest window. Is this true? 1. If so, has anyone written a cutom loader that bypasses this limitation? 2. If 1 is no, does anyone have the GPX file specification and the Garmin data specification? I have a C++ compiler and would be willing to write my own. I'm seriously considering upgrading to a more expensive GPSr to overcome this limitation, so any insight would be greatly appreciated. Edited January 17, 2012 by ras_oscar Quote Link to comment

Macro is called GarminCsvPoiExport-v2.gsk described on this page. GSAK has loads of other extremely useful features as well. Regards Bernard Quote Link to comment

I can't find a multiple waypoint hint on my GPS at the moment but I think they are listed as Hint, Hint1, Hint2 and so on. Regards Bernard Quote Link to comment

No it is a limitation of the Garmin software. Its the same way on my 60CX. The screens only allow for a finite number of characters. Quote Link to comment
