+weston wanderer
Hi, I am just hoping that someone more tecchie than me can help. There is a gpx file Track-r (rectangle symbol)t.gpx which cannot be deleted on my Oregon 300 as the name is too long. I have tried renaming but it reverts back. It doesn't affect the performance but is annoying when I see it in the list of gpx files when I am cleaning up! Quote Link to comment
+Jonovich
Hi, I am just hoping that someone more tecchie than me can help. It doesn't affect the performance but is annoying when I see it in the list of gpx files when I am cleaning up! What OS are you using? If it's windows, try deleting using the shortname from a command prompt. I.E. do a DIR /X in the directory, then issue a DEL with the TRACK~1.GPX or whatever filename it comes up with. +The Patrician
It could be due to the rectangle symbol making the file name invalid (assuming Windows OS). You should be able to delete the whole folder which should take the file with it too. Obviously don't do this without backing up anything in the folder that you want to keep. Reinstate the folder afterwards. Edited November 10, 2011 by The Patrician Quote Link to comment
+The Patrician
Try this DelinvFile - Delete Invalid Files and Folders "Some windows functions allow creation of folder paths such that the combined path + filename lengths exceed the maximum permitted length. The current limit is 260 characters. In other words, windows can create names that are too long for the standard Windows Explorer to delete. The scan function also attempts to identify file and folder names with invalid characters which would make them un-removable via Windows Explorer. " Quote Link to comment
