I downloaded one cache on to it from the site. The map view says, "Ready to Navigate" but the compass view doesn't have anything in it, the distance is blank and the needle is missing. When I select the cache from the find menu it does display the distance there. Quote Link to comment

Three items that will bring joy to your Geocaching are (1) a mapping software program, (2) GSAK software, and (3) Geocaching.com membership. Buy Mapsource software from Garmin and buy GSAK software from gsak.net. Mapsource will enable you to load detailed regional maps into your GPS receiver to replace the simplified base-maps that are provided with new units. Either City Navigator or topo maps are available to suit you taste as either an urban Geocacher or a trail Geocacher, or both. With Mapsource you can view the location of Geocaching Waypoints and also interface these views with Google Earth Street View; no charge for Google Earth by the way but you can donate to the aged Geocachers support fund if you are a compassionate person ... unlike a few heartless San Diego Count Geocachers that shall remain anonymous even though they are well known in said area for their lack of compassion for poor ol' men unmentioned here eccept by way of association with this posting. (They know who they are!) The GSAK software is a database-management software program used to view and arrange Geocaching waypoints, and then download selected waypoints into your GPS receiver. This opens the door for you to make use of Pocket Queries assuming that you have joined Geocaching.com as a Premium Member. By the way, the compass needle is visible only when a waypoint is selected. Questions? Poor ol' Harmon SD Rowdies p.s. Post lots of photos to fill up your profile gallery. Edited November 6, 2011 by SD Rowdies Quote Link to comment

I spent hours and hours trying to get the GPS to work, I finally downloaded an update for the Garmin and that seemed to take care of my main problem...but after watching several tutorials and downloading umpteen other programs things aren't exactly going smooth, ha ha. For one, when I do a pocket queire it doesn't email the results to my inbox even though the address is correct and it's not going to my spam folder. Also when I do put a few geocaching waypoints onto the Garmin it starts giving me directions starting from a location a few miles away...although when I get close to the cache it does take me to ground zero. I do have Garmin's 2008 topo map. Mapsource will really let you see google images on the eTrex? That would be great! Almost all of my photos are on my dead laptop And most of those are not suitable for publishing on the internet ha ha. Quote Link to comment

Go to "Your Account Details" page and check the entry for "Your Validated E-Mail Addresses." Pocket Query emails should be delivered to the validated email addresses shown. Mapsource under the "View/View in Google Earth" option of the menu bar will call-up Google Earth and show any Geocaches being displayed on Mapsource. Quote Link to comment
+imamachine
Ha, so I figured out the email problem...I thought yesterday was Tuesday. Now that I try it today and I know it is Friday the email comes through fine. So now when I upload the .csv file from GSAK onto my GPS, only 50 waypoints come up. This still happens even if I skip GSAK and just use the PC zip file. The PC generated 136 points. I have a 2GB card installed so there should be plenty of space. The GPS also still wants to start me out at a point on Las Vegas Blvd instead of wherever I am currently located. The arrow pointer and compass needle point in the right direction but if you wanted to follow the street directions the don't start at the correct oregin. I'll check out Mapsource, thanks for the info! Quote Link to comment
ao318
The unit only displays the closest 50 caches. If you want to see all 136, you will need to change your viewing option to "show by name" not closest. Quote Link to comment
