TB logging

Just curious, we are on the road and have picked up a TB from a cache. This particular TB was noted in the cache log and we know it was dropped just the day before we got there. The cacher that dropped it has not yet logged online either the cache find, or the dropped TB. What is the proper etiquite for us? Do we go ahead and log our find prior to them posting their drop, or do we wait to log, and how long do we wait? Should we send them an email from geocaching.com, and if so how long should we give them before we do that?

We had the same situation a couple of weeks back when we picked up a TB from a very busy cache by the Alhambra, Granada. It was still showing "in the hands of" a German caching account so we guessed it was probably someone on holiday who hadn't had a chance to do their logging. We just put a note on the TB page to say that we had collected it from the cache but would wait for it to be logged into it correctly... which it was, about 5 days later, when we were back home in UK.

I think it's polite to give cachers some time to catch up with logs - but how long to wait? - For us, it depends... We'll usually wait about a week... then re-assess the situation. :)

Full ack to the above, give them some time. We've had a TB "grabbed" from us mere hours after we put it in a cache. We simply had still been on the road and didn't get back home until late in the evening to log everything. To top things off, that cacher didn't even bother to dip/visit that TB into the cache to correct its mileage.

So, if you do end up "grabbing" the TB, please use the "visited" option to give the TB credit for having been at that cache. :D

Thanks for the feedback. I think I will wait another day or so, and then pop them an email. We are kind of planning to wait to place it until we get home, but if we find the perfect spot. If they don't reply to the email by this weekend, we will consider logging it's visit at the cache and acknowledging it's motion.
