Help: How Do I Put A HTML Code Box On My Profile?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I need some help with coding for my Profile page. I have a group and some members asked if I had a link or picture they could put on thier profile. Well I can put them in my geocache pages and on my profile but I have to email them the code and walk them through it, so I wanted to be able to put it on my profile so I could tell them to pick the one they wanted and paste it where they want to use it. But all I get is a blank text box? I have tried a dozen web pages for help and none of the codes work. You can see what I do have at the bottom of my Profile but that's all I can do so far. One is blank and the other I can type in but the code never shows up?

Does the Profile page support the Text Box w/the Code in it???

Any help on this is welcome. McKenzie~Binns

Thank you for the post. I will look it over some more but I have tried stuff like in the link: "Then replace the "<" character with "<" and the ">" character with ">" in the same way. "

Also for the ("s) with no luck still. I may be missing some thing? If any one has gotten it to work on thier profile please let me know.

I have also added the (target="_blank) in the different tries with still no luck. I have been at this for 4 hours now. *cry* I'll try some more since I have some nice images I wanted to use for the links.

If I have this right.

You want the image to be a clickable link to the webpage?

I think I have this right. (Or it's totaly wrong! )

It may be the site is making a mess of what code you put on the page...

Worth looking at http://www.follow-the-arrow.co.uk/resources/htmlcodes.html written by one of the UK Reviewers.

I wonder if putting (code)insert code here (/code) with square brackets will help it show on the page?

Hi

Have a look at my profile page (click on my name). In the description about me are two links to my player profile and my resource website and my photo is also shown. They are just entered using normal HTML code in the profile when you edit it like this (bits removed for brevity):

<p>I'm a volunteer........ I've setup a website to provide useful resources for geocachers in the UK and Ireland called <a href="http://www.follow-the-arrow.co.uk">Follow-the-Arrow</a>. It is the Home Page link above.</p>

<p>If you want to know more about me personally then look at my caching account name, <a href="http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=898a40ce-d29d-4547-947e-d4257ad882a1" target=_blank>The Blorenges</a>.</p>

<p>You are welcome..........</p><br />

The photo is just held in the gallery of one of my caches and the URL is obtained by just opening the image in your browser from the cache page and copying it. If the photo you want is on a website somewhere then just copy the URL from that. For more information about HTML code look at the Knowledge Books article. This also explains the <p> and <br /> codes as well as the link and img codes. It also shows you how to use the <img src... code and make the image a link to a website.

Yes Bear and Ragged, That is what I want to put on my profile. :) Can you get it to work on your profile page? And if so can you email me the code you used. My text box comes up empty or with the clickable image link in it. I want the text so others can copy & paste the code from it.

It works!

Post it in the box as:

(a href="http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=fd250b97-d1aa-4a86-8864-a50ef15ab731"><img src="http://img.geocaching.com/user/9bb3a038-b2d9-426b-8206-936fb7b889f1.jpg" /></a)

Remove the first ( and add a <

remove the last ) and add a >

Remove the box and just have:

I think most people that are up to a little HTML -even just copy and paste- can manage the few instructions!

If you want to copy the text from your profile here so we can look at it then use the 'quote' box to paste it into. That way it appears exactly and the forum won't change anything. When you create your post here use the little 'speech bubble' icon (when you hover your mouse over it it shows Insert Quotation
