Assuming iOS 4 here -

Kill the Geocaching App (double tap home, tap and hold icons until the red circles appear, then tap the circle to close the Geocaching app). Failing that, restart the phone (press power/wake and home buttons until the screen clears and the apple logo appears). Then try again.

I have found that the Geocaching App 4.2.1 on iOS 4.2.1 can take 30-60 seconds to be responsive when you start/wake it. Apparently there is a memory leak on iOS 4.2.1 that will be addressed in the next update of the Geocaching app.

The Home button is the button on the front of the device, below the screen. Push it twice rapidly and you will see the programs running on your iPhone. Swipe right or left on the icons that appear until you see the Geocaching app. Touch that icon for two seconds and the red circles will appear. Touch the red circle on the Geocaching app and it will be closed.
