+Sandy Hams Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 We are geocachers who have recently gotten interested in benchmarks. Often when we have been out hunting caches we have run across metal disks that "look like" benchmarks but can't be located in the benchmark database. Often these are identified as belonging to US Department of Agriculture, Department of Forestry and are in the general area of a benchmark we have heard about or are seeking. What are these and can they also be identified and logged? I usually take a picture and mark a waypoint for coordinates but when I get home the "mark" is nowhere to be found in the database. Quote
+Klemmer Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Hi Sandy Hams: There are literally millions of metal disks in the ground of all sorts, used for many various things. Here is a quick answer: http://www.geocaching.com/mark/#notin and here is a whole bunch more info put together by several benchmark hunters for geocaching: http://www.geocaching.com/mark/ As you have nicely discovered and used, you can make waymarks for the ones not readily identified as Benchmarks on geocaching.com. Happy Hunting! Klemmer Quote

Thanks for the reply that helps and now I will read more about benchmarks. Quote
