Geomate Jr. Updates with Pocket Queries

I received a Geomate Jr. for Christmas and wanted to update it with pocket queries. After purchasing an update kit from REI and renewing my premium membership from Groundspeak, I get the following error message from the update process:

The server could not proecess the file because of an IO error.

I have no problems updating with manual entries, or with the Western USA database. Has anyone else used pocket queries successfully?

I had the same problem today. I'd updated the device (for my kid) before Christmas with database dated 12/18. However the only thing available on their website today was a 6/2/10 database. I've tried loading multiple PQ's which all result in the same error you're seeing.

I tried calling their support number - but it just rang and rang.

Thanks for the information. The 6/2 database was all that I could see also.

Looks like the 12/28 database is there, and downloads correctly, BUT pocket queries still broken.

I still only see the "Get Them All'ish 6/2" for the Western USA.

The Geomate reports being loaded with:

Your Geomate.jr is up to date.

Unit Firmware: geomate.jr V1004 RE X2

Unit Database: geomate.jr DB: USA Western Allish 6/2/2010

Oh well. Maybe it'll be fixed by the time we get back from placing a cache today.

I think Apisphere is fixing stuff as we speak because Pocket Queries are working! :yikes::)

Be sure to try again when you get back!

Hi,

I work for Apisphere, and i just wanted to let you know that we are working on the 6/2/2010 issue. We are hoping that we have it reset and the current database will load tonight.

If anyone is having issues getting a PQ loaded please contact me directly at jo.vaughn@apisphere.com or via the phone on 510 868 2655 x 24.

Thanks,

Happy New Year!

Hello everyone I have a Geomate with the update kit. I have held onto it because they said that you will beable to load pocket queries. When I first got a email saying that some time in Dec. this was going to happen. I told myself we shall see. When I checked back and it was there on the update page, I had to try it out. Well it didn't work so I sent off a email and I got three back and it now works. Thanks to the TEC's that did this I can't wait till my youngest gets back home to let her try it out.

Is it possible to load multiple pocket queries or can you merge pocket queries into one file to load them that way?

I don't see how you can update the device with a second PQ without erasing what is already in it.

It is possible to merge pocket queries as long as you are careful, or if you have a special program to do it. I used an editor to merge two PQs and deleted the

</gpx>

from the first file, and removed the xml header from the second query. Then the two files can be merged into one. In my case the header was something like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<gpx xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" version="1.0" creator="Groundspeak Pocket Query" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/0 http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/0/gpx.xsd http://www.Groundspeak.com/cache/1/0 http://www.Groundspeak.com/cache/1/0/cache.xsd" xmlns="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/0">

 <bounds minlat="33.00000" minlon="-112.0000" maxlat="33.4000" maxlon="-112.10000" />

I had lots of trouble if I merged too much stuff together. I sent a message to Jo at Apisphere regarding this problem.
