+EFLFT
I'm trying to GC with both my Blackberry Storm (version 1) using BlackStar, and my Garmin Nuvi 1390t (using GSAK and nuvi macro). In general, I'm finding it quite frustrating, so would love any tips or hints anyone has. Neither seem to pinpoint well. It will say 20 feet to the left, so I go over there, and then it says 30 feet to the right. I've found the best way to pinpoint at this point is to use the BB to open the point on Google Maps, go to satellite view, and study it's location that way. Both also seem to take a long time to update my location. Sometimes it moves along with me, but usually I walk 20 feet, and stop and wait a minute or two for them to update. The BB Storm, of course has all it's own issues ... it gets really slow, have to pull the battery, the cache fills up like mad, etc. But in general, it still seems more helpful than the Nuvi 1390t, which has been rather tedious to use for GC (going in and constantly changing between pedestrian offroad and vehicle onroad, not being able to easily see the clue again after you've selected to go to that one, etc.). Any tricks to making one (or both) of these tools to work better for my GCing needs? I'd really rather not go out and buy a new GPS at this point. Thanks in advance! Quote Link to comment
+SeekerOfTheWay
Geocache Navigator by Trimble is a great caching app for BlackBerry. It's $19.99 one time fee. There's radar mode, compass mode, map mode and cache details. You need to be MOVING for compass mode to give you accurate info. Radar mode is the same but it does better at slower speeds i've found. i've used Geocache Navigator to get all my caches. When you're new, you should go for average size or bigger caches with a D of 1 or 2. After a while you'll get the hang of how cachers hide. You also need to use some 'geosense' and think, "where would i hide that?" Geocache Navigator is also cool because you can leave a Field Note right from the cache as soon as you've found (or DNF) a cache. Then you can log onto geocaching.com from your BlackBerry and turn that Field Note into a log. Great app! There's a 7 day free trial. Give it a shot. Let me know if you have any questions about it.
