OK,

So a few years ago, I took a travel bug from the Lake Tahoe area, and brought it back to the East coast. Throughout the course of the past years, life happened, and well I had forgotten about the travel bug. The other day why going through some stuff, I found it. I have tried contacting the owner of the travel bug, but have gotten no response. I would like to mail it back to the owner, but dont know where to send it. I currently dont have time to go hunt a new cache, and place it there. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do with the travel bug?

Thanks

You are allowed to re-visit caches.... saves on the hunting time... Regular event caches present the opportunity of a hand off to someone else... you give, they grab it... One thing that comes to mind if you haven't done it would to check the TB page and see if it had been re-released at some point... adding a note to the page giving its current status sometimes evokes a response faster than an email... and prevents a second tag in circulation.

Just a few ideas... hope something works for you, and good on getting it found again.

I appreciate you sincere desire to return this TB.

I realise you don't have time to get out and seek a cache to place this TB. Even if you contact another cacher, you still have to go and meet with that person.

Mailing the TB also costs you some time, packing it and standing at the post office.

I think that the easiest thing is to locate a cache that is along a route you will be traveling, and drop it there.

Not necessarily. If you have a 'front desk' you leave it there telling who's there that so-and-so will be picking it up. Then that cacher comes whenever they can make it that day.

Or if you contact the state park people you have a nice drive out to the park and leave it at the ranger station.

Yea, Dont have time as stated to go on a search! The post office would be much easier for me. Im just trying to do the right thing, it would have been just as easy to just throw it in the trash, and say forget it.

Well, as BlueDuce suggested

Contact that cacher (or any other local cacher), and ask him to pick it up from your mail box or something like that.

I sent that cacher a note asking if they can assist the OP. Heck if it came right down to it I'll send post-paid container that someone could drop a bug into and then post in the mail.

However, since the guy is apparently a cop I don't see much problem with him getting out interacting with the general public. Personally I'd be driving out to the parks 'on business' and hassle the rangers about these 'hidden containers' that have been reported online. :D
