+seventhings
Found 1765 Mason-Dixon Arc Stone #2 (JU3851) on the grounds of the Stine-Haskell Research Center (DuPont) on July 30th. Very easy find as I was escorted to the site by one of the facility's security officers. Also recovered three 1849 boundary monuments and a 1961 survey disk (JU3852, JU3850, JU3846 and JU3855). Unable to find a second 1765 stone (JU3849). Conditions of my visit precluded searching for reference marks or azimuth marks, and precluded a detailed update of the descriptions of environmental references. While I was thrilled to "find" these benchmarks, I also was humbled by the total tonnage of stuff I don't know about the Mason-Dixon surveys of 1763-1766 or the Graham survey of 1849. Kudos to DuPont for their superb custodianship of these historic artifacts. Quote Link to comment
+BlueDeuce
Wow! Good job. I'm still trying to get earlier than 1903. I don't supposed they'd let just any Joe Benchmark Hunter in there? Thanks for another mark worth showcasing. [This message was edited by Team X40 on August 01, 2003 at 07:52 PM.] Quote Link to comment
