+dcrep
In Forest Park, in St. Louis City. In a grassy field, all by itself, is this monument. This thing has bugged me for years. Anyone hazard a guess why it was put there? I'm guessing it's not a geodetic control point. Are there any similar monuments elsewhere? Quote Link to comment
Difficult Run
Interesting monument! Sorry to say that it is not in the NGS database, (as far as I can tell). Here's the skinny behind this little historical jewel: St. Louis Park Monument ... and if you're interested in looking around for other marks, try this site: Benchmark Viewer This would make an excellent candidate for Waymarking. ~ Mitch ~ Quote Link to comment
+dcrep
Fascinating! Thanks for digging up that link. Paraphrased for posterity: It commemorates a nineteenth century meteorological station that existed in Forest Park, which was replaced by a twentieth century station at Lambert field airport.
