JL_HSTRE
Why are Benchmarks still part of Geocaching rather than part of Waymarking? Seems like they have more in common with Waymarks (something you visit and photograph but no log to sign). Just curious... Edited April 29, 2010 by joshism Quote Link to comment
dfx
legacy i guess. benchmark finds aren't counted towards your cache finds anyway. Quote Link to comment
Touchstone
There is also a Category over at Waymarking for Benchmarks as well, since the GC database is limited to USGS data, but otherwise I think the answer above is probably the most likely. Quote Link to comment
GeoGeeBee
It's also worth mentioning that the benchmarks listed on geocaching.com are the result of a one-time download from the NGS, in 2001. It hasn't been updated since. New benchmarks have been placed, and some old benchmarks have been destroyed, but the geocaching.com database has not been updated. If you really care about looking for benchmarks, check the Benchmarking category in these forums for info on how to get more current information. Quote Link to comment
narcissa
Better yet, why can't we see Waymarking finds in our profiles the way we can see benchmarks? Quote Link to comment
