So which one is you in those pictures? icon_wink.gif

In the photo labeled MVC-003L.JPG (and others), it looks like some kind of marker was rubbed back and forth across the stampings to make them stand out. What do you use when taking photos to make them more visible? Are there any other hints or tips you could share for making closeup photos come out better?

Thats me in the center of this Photo , the other 2 as professional surveyors. Brian retired in 1997 and I did in 2002.

I used a paint marker on some. Its similar to a felt tip pen. They come on many colors. Walmart, OfficeMax, Staples have them. Some of the disks we just sprayed pink fluorescent spray paint or whatever we had in the truck.

Most all of the photos were taken with a Sony Mavica FD-81 digital camera. Takes perfect photo's all the time. The older ones were Polaroids.Photo.

The ones of the bridge survey were mostly taken by the other guys using my camera.

One essential is a macro setting on your camera. If you have one, it will allow you to get to within a few inches of the target for a sharp, frame-filling image.

Judicious use of photo-editing software will also help, to adjust gamma, brightness and contrast, and - sometimes - sharpness to bring out the image.

Lighting is also important. Built-in flash is usually the wrong way to go. To emphasize the stamping, the lighting should be from an oblique angle. A reflector (a white sheet of paper) can often do wonders.
