With GSAK, you can send directly to a Nuvi. Plug in the Nuvi and send away....

You can also simply copy a GPX file such as a pocket query to the unit under the Garmin/GPX/ folder.

There are also nice GSAK macros if you want to be paperless. Go to the GSAK forums for the best information on those.

I use a nuvi 500 and can just copy the GPX file to the GPS and away I go. I know someone who uses a different nuvi model and they had to download a program like you are referring to - from the garmin website I believe. Even WITH the program installed, they still are disappointed with the geocaching capabilities of their nuvi. For example, it doesn't provide all of the cache information but rather lists the cache as a "waypoint". They have no access to hint, cache description, previous logs, exc. Also, when searching for the cache, the unit will not have a "distance to" feature. They have to zoom all the way in and to try to find it that way. Works find if there arn't many hiding spots in the area. Get to the woods and it becomes more difficult. This is just from my experience with a nuvi 205, maybe a nuvi 260 user can help you more...

Actually paperless caching (which is loading all of the cache information onto the gps) is no problem with the nuvi (either for the 205 or the 260). See this webpage for step by step instructions - http://geocaching.totaltechworld.com/

Also, you can see the distance to the cache just fine using the directions in the above link.

The real shortcomings of the nuvi are that it isn't waterproof/shockproof and that it has an internal battery that only lasts 4 or 5 hours.

To try and compensate for these shortcomings, I attached a lanyard to my nuvi - http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...p;#entry4114324 (post 29)

And I made an external battery pack so that my nuvi can run on AA's, giving it over 16 hours of battery life per 4 AA's - http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...amp;mode=linear

Hi, I've followed the instructions on that link and it's fine till I get to:

"Now here's the nice part, launch GSAK and when you're at the main program screen, go and find the zip file you downloaded earlier. CLICK AND DRAG this zip file from the folder it is in, and DROP IT ONTO THE GSAK program it will import all the data instantly!!"

I drop it in and it says there is no matching file and the import has been aborted. Help!

Hm, not sure what that could be. Your zip file that you're dropping into gsak is the pocket query .gpx file, right?

I've never had this error, but if you can't figure it out, try asking or searching in the gsak forums here - http://gsak.net/board/index.php?

Also, what is the exact wording of the error message it's giving you?

DOH! I feel daft now - it was my fault, I tried to move the folder instead of the two files separately!

I've now done it all and I think I'm ready to go paperless caching - although I'll still need my trusty little notebook for working out multis and ? s. Can't wait to have a go tomorrow.

Thanks so much for this! :P
