+zpyder Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Hi all I've not posted here for a while. I've been slowly racking up my finds, and after my first cache has been a success with near 80 finds in 2 years, I've been thinking of placing some more. The cache I have hidden was placed on a local bit of forest managed by the East Dorset Countryside Management service. Out of politeness I've emailed every now and again to give the ranger who gave permission for the cache updates on the cache, such as interesting logs and a run down of the type of people visiting it. Being an ecologist by trade, both myself and the ranger can see the potential of caches for attracting additional visitors to sites and providing some basic knowledge on the area and its inhabitants. As such the ranger is happy for me to place other caches at other sites, and has even posted me details on the sites they manage. We hope to use the cache descriptions as a mean of interpretation (passing on knowledge/information) for the sites. It'd be really good to be able to place a cache at each of the sites and to make these into a series of caches in partnership with the EDCMS, which would hopefully add a slight overall increase to the number of visitors than if there were just a few caches. The problem is that some of these sites are pretty tiny, and in a few cases already have a cache nearby. Though I think it would be possible to place the cache more than 100m away in pretty much all sites, it might be a bit of a push. I was wondering if there is any way of contacting the reviewer likely to review the caches to get their opinion on the caches/locations, as it'd be a shame to have a cache in all but 1 or 2 sites, especially if the landowner is happy and enthusiastic to have the series placed? Also it'd be good to hear feedback on this potential "mini-saturation" from other people. The tiny fragments are often in urban areas where the surrounding area doesn't have that many caches, and so though the small bit of green land might have 2 caches in close proximity, the larger area may not have that many at all? Thanks all. Quote

Thanks all. Check who is your local reviewer by seeing who has published recent caches in your area. You can then contact them through their profile just like any other player. Note the proximity rule is 0.1 miles (176 yds or 528ft) so it'll be around 160 of those metric thingies - not 100. There are exceptions to this if there is an un-crossable barrier between two caches like a river, railway or motorway Quote

+Team Noodles Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 how about a multi or two? waypoints for the win and all that? Quote
+zpyder Posted December 29, 2009 Author Posted December 29, 2009 how about a multi or two? waypoints for the win and all that? Hmm. It's a solution, and would be quite good for getting people to visit the whole series of sites. I'm not sure about other people though, but I find multi's to be a bit annoying when planning out trips. I'll bear it in mind though Quote

I'll bear it in mind though If you want to get people intrested Multi's are the way to go people have to stop read and think. If you just want lots of visitors, make it traditional. I think my favourite caches have all been good Multi's so much more rewarding. Or make it a combination of all with a bonus cache for completing the series, make it relevant to the sites... Just ideas, I think they are good Quote
+The Slaughter Family Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 re the multi's.....great way to get people to visit a series of places to make up the history, as mentioned I have used this in my old hospital caches in my local area........had some nice logs from cachers saying thanks for getting them to see what is there etc Quote
