Wintertime
This is apparently from 2007, so it may have been mentioned at that time and I just don't remember. Thanks to IPB's lovely search engine, I can't do a search that includes the words "NOAA" or "book," which rendered the search useless. (I did search for "200th anniversary," but that gave more results than I knew what to do with.) Anyway...I ran across this book on NOAA's website the other day: http://celebrating200years.noaa.gov/edufun/book/welcome.html You can download the whole thing, or just the section(s) you want. The one I'm mentioning here, of course, is about looking for survey marks. It's three pages, and includes some nice mentions of Geocaching.com as a good place to get started. +billwallace
Thnx. I think that's the first time I've seen a picture of a flattened and slightly bumpy earth in a publication - cool. Quote Link to comment
NGS Surveyor
Patty, Yes, those NOAA articles were written in 2007 as part of the 200th Anniversary Celebration. I didn't write any of them but I did review several prior to publication. There is a tremendous amount of information on the "Celebrating 200 Years" web site. billwallace, If you want to see lots of drawing of the flattened earth, and maybe learn some more about geodesy, see "Geodesy for the Layman" at: http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/PUBS_LIB/GeoLay.pdf GeorgeL NGS Quote Link to comment
