steveqae
I have a Garmin Etrex Vista which I used to use with a Windows XP computer connected to the serial port. I have now upgraded to a new computer running Windows 7 with no serial port. I have purchased an RS232 to USB cable but am unable to get it to work. Can anyone help? Steve Quote Link to comment
+PDOP's
The RS232 to USB cable should have come with (a disk of) software drivers. Have you installed those? Quote Link to comment
+PirateKatz
After you install the drivers, it will likely be necessary to manually assign it a low COM port number (1-4) for it to be recognized. This can be done in Device Manager in older versions of windows -- I'm not sure about 7. Quote Link to comment

steveqae
Thanks for the info. I did get a disc with the cable, but it did not seem to have any drivers for windows 7, I just installed everything I could find which has fixed the problem, even automatically assigned the com port. +Guitar_Cacher
Double check with Garmin, but Windows 7 is a relatively new OS and may not have the drivers ready yet. Windows 7 is supposed to be very similar to Windows Vista, without the headaches. The Vista driver may work, but before you install ANY drivers, check with Garmin. Quote Link to comment
