Dakota 20 - Memory maps

Recommended Posts

From Garmins's CO/OR FAQ but I'm assuming it works for the DK:

Question: How do I transfer a route from Memory Map to my Oregon / Colorado?

Answer:

Some third party applications such as Memory Map are unable to communicate with the Oregon or Colorado directly as these devices are mass storage devices. In most mapping applications it is possible to create a route on the computer, save it as a GPX file then store this on the internal memory of the GPS. If you are using Memory Map the steps for this are:

1. Create a route using the Route tool

2. Click Overlay and a select Export Visible from the list

3. Select a location on your computer to save the file to

4. Name the file and select GPS exchange file (gpx) next to Save as type

5. The file will now be saved to your computer. Locate this file and copy it (right click then Copy)

To transfer a GPX file to the GPS device connect it to the computer and ensure the device goes into mass storage mode. Windows should prompt you to open a folder to view files (if it doesn't then go to the Start Menu > My Computer and double click the Oregon / Colorado drive). From this Window

1. Open the Garmin folder

2. Open the GPX folder

3. Paste the file into this folder (right click then paste)

The route will then display in Routes when you next turn on your GPS device.
