+DamhuisClan 1 Posted October 31, 2009 Some people say "Cash" and "Casher" (phonetically). Others say "Cashay". Which way is correct? From: Common Errors in English Usage “Cache” comes from the French verb cacher, meaning “to hide,” and in English is pronounced exactly like the word “cash.” But reporters speaking of a cache (hidden hoard) of weapons or drugs often mispronounce it to sound like cachet—“ca-SHAY” —a word with a very different meaning: originally a seal affixed to a document, now a quality attributed to anything with authority or prestige. Rolex watches have cachet. Quote Share this post Link to post
+trevorh7000 0 Posted October 31, 2009 (edited) Some people say "Cash" and "Casher" (phonetically).Others say "Cashay". Which way is correct? I say "Cash" so I am right and that is how you should say it to avoid looking foolish. So there!!! I also say fill-it and not fi-lay when referring to the cut of meat, and clar-et and not cla-ray when referring to that fine wine. As a friend of mine always says when I make mistakes in English - Who learned you to spoke British, by the house! While researching I came across this interesting blog post http://separatedbyacommonlanguage.blogspot...-and-names.html Louis Armstrong might have captured it best........ You like potato and I like potahto, You like tomato and I like tomahto Potato, potahto, Tomato, tomahto, Let's call the whole thing off or just go geocashaying instead! +The Blorenges 22 Posted October 31, 2009 Up here in UK we pronounce cache as cash. A UK geocaching team emigrated to Australia a couple of years back and in one of their blogs they commented that the Australians pronounce cache as cashay and they now do geo-cay-shing "down under". +cownchicken 0 Posted October 31, 2009 This is from geocaching.com: Getting Started with Geocaching Geocaching (pronounced geo-cashing) is a worldwide game of hiding and seeking treasure. A geocacher can place a geocache in the world, pinpoint its location using GPS technology and then share the geocache's existence and location online. Anyone with a GPS device can then try to locate the geocache. Quote Share this post Link to post
