+Stunod
Can you hide a cache when you are on vacation (more than 500 km from home location)? Have you checked what the listing guidelines have to say about this? It may be difficult to fulfill your maintenance obligations if you place a cache while traveling on vacation or otherwise outside of your normal caching area. These caches may not be published unless you are able to demonstrate an acceptable maintenance plan. It is not uncommon for caches to go missing, areas to be cleared, trails to be blocked or closed, objects used for multi-cache or puzzles to be moved or removed, etc. Your maintenance plan must allow for a quick response to reported problems. Clan Riffster
My personal view is that vacation caches are generally a real bad idea, for many reasons. There are ways to pull it off, if you can find someone willing to do all your maintanance for you. If you absolutely must hide one, and no one is willing to do your duties, you could opt for the Aunt Edna approach. Quote Link to comment

+Isonzo Karst
If there's a vacation cache in your area, one of two things apply: 1) it's old...back in the Olden Days there was no maintenance guideline, and reviewers published vacation caches. 2) If it's more recent, the cache owner submitted a maintenance plan to the reviewer. +JPost
I placed one by my in-laws vacation home and if something comes up either they can take care of it if they are down there or I go a couple times a year. And, fellow GCers will help out too. The log got a little damp and they new I was 1000 miles away so they added a new one and put it in a ziplock baggy. Quote Link to comment
