+Happy Joe
I will be caching (visiting) Iceland mid September. I would love to cache near Geysir and Gulfoss and will be renting a car to move around. I am wondering if the trip can be done with a normal town car (coming from Reykjavik) or if I really need to rent a 4x4 for both those places. Thanks a lot for help Quote Link to comment

Thanks a lot for help In May 2005 (pre caching days for me) we did both Geysir and Gulfoss in a regular car. The road beyond Gulfoss was still closed and we were told is only open and snow free during the months of June and July. Geysir had very good roads to it, we missed the coach parties! +Von-Horst
We visited in March this year and were fine in a normal car, although it did have snow tires (which were needed on one of the days when we went a little off piste!) Quote Link to comment
+Happy Joe
Thank you for the answers. Coming from Canada and Switzerland I am quite used to the snow anyway So a normal car will do. Edited August 8, 2009 by Happy Joe Quote Link to comment
+Cyberchasers
Thank you for the answers. Coming from Canada and Switzerland I am quite used to the snow anyway So a normal car will do. We just got back to Canada from Iceland today, and yes, a normal car should do for the "Golden Circle" trip to Geysir and Gullfoss. We were on other roads where we definitely needed our 4-wheel drive, however. For example, the road to GC1G4WV (Hveravellir--hot spring plains). Best wishes for a great time in Iceland! +Von-Horst
So a normal car will do. If it is a HIRE CAR, yes! We took ours places we'd never have taken our own car.... Mike Quote Link to comment
