Topo Maps vs City Navigator

Recommended Posts

I currently have city navigator north America that I use on my Etrex Vista HCX. What are the advantages of the garmin topo maps? Would it be helpful to have both? I am starting to do more hiking caches. I live and cache mostly in the South East if that makes any difference. Just wanted to see if it would be worth the money to have them both. Thanks in advance for any advice you might have.

This might be moved to another section of the forums. But the topo maps have fire roads and trails that are not in the navigator -- as well as topo contours that can be useful when you are in an unfamiliar territory in the middle of nowhere.

My Colorado supports the 24k topo that has both the routable streets and the detailed topo, but it lacks the fire roads and trails that are in the regular garmin topo maps. Soo I only use it if I am really in the middle of nowhere.
