POLE POSITION Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Just wondering what a defines a historical feature (type of earthcache). Quote
+geoaware Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 A "Historical Feature" is a place that in the past has been important for geology. This may be an old mining site, a place where fossils of a type were first found etc. Its MUST follow the guidelines and be Earth science related. Historical sites not related to Earth science are not approved. Hope that helps Geoaware Quote
+Carbon Hunter Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I had a Historical Earthcache published in Johannesburg, South Africa. It was the spot where the surveyor began surveying the first geological map that was important for the development of gold mining in the area. Quote
+Konnarock Kid & Marge Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 We had one EC published of a historical nature. It was an old (1815) iron furnace but there were a lot of geological implications. Quote
+mtmanva2 Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Would a old court house qualify? It's made of local old sandstone. Quote
+TerryDad2 Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Would a old court house qualify? It's made of local old sandstone. I wouldn't put that as a historic feature unless it was the courthouse that had some landmark decision about geology. And I would think that all sandstone is old . Seriously though, I have seen buildings as EarthCaches. They describe the stone the building is made of, where it came from, and special features about the stone. Quote
