geocaching while travelling

I use the Map It button after doing a search and it shows all the caches. It uses Google maps, so you can just move the map with your cursor, stop in a location and wait for the caches to log onto the map. You can zoom out to show the @10x20 mile map and see every cache on the map. Then adjust settings as needed to limit how far off the highway you want to look.

Just a suggestion... Not only can you do a route and pocket query but if you have a GPS enabled phone you can use an application like Geocache Navigator which can search for geocaches where ever you are as long as you have a phone/internet connection.

I believe the wireless GPS units can do that now too, yes/no?

Just thought I would pass that along.

Caches along a route feature.

You need to understand how to build a route and do a Pocket Query.

http://www.markwell.us/route.htm offers some help as does http://www.markwell.us/pq.htm

You can also just pan along the google geocaching maps and look for caches.

I have found your second suggestion to be much easier. You have to keep refreshing the map as you move it around but that's not a problem.

Using the "find caches along a route" feature is a great tool. We just did it today for a trip down to the Smoky Mountains in a couple of weeks. We just tell it how far off the road we want to go and what kind of caches we want to find. It is a little tricky to do at first, and running pocket queries is always a crap shoot, but after a few times it will be second nature to you.

If you want to send me an email through our profile, let me know where you are starting and where you are finishing and I will upload the route and run the pocket query. All you have to do is follow this link and type in the name you h the route. http://www.geocaching.com/my/userroutes.aspx
