+pgrig
I sometimes have a hard time telling, from a Description, in which city or town a given benchmark is located. None of the various maps I try on Geocaching.com seems to have local political boundaries shown. Is there a way to solve this? -Paul Quote Link to comment
+Ernmark
In urban areas, I'll check the online USGS topos w/ the caveat that they are usually out-of-date, but in areas that are already built out, the lines don't change too much... Quote Link to comment
+Harry Dolphin
That's where I miss Topozone.com. It used to be easy with their maps. Quote Link to comment
+Klemmer
Delorme Topo USA and Google Earth both have good county lines. Google Earth also does many (most?) city / town boundaries. Quote Link to comment
holograph
It is not as refined as some of the others, but it is authoritative, at least in the U.S. -- the U.S. Census Tiger/Line online mapping service: here. You can add labels for municipalities and counties, and can place markers at latitude/longitude coordinates. Edited August 16, 2008 by holograph Quote Link to comment
+pgrig
Thank you, Holograph! I had tried the Tiger maps before, but didn't realize you had to turn ON the city boundary layer and turn OFF the street layer in order to see the city/town boundary lines, which are printed in gray, just like the streets, which they also trace along anyway! I think this will do it for me. [Knowing the city/town seems more important to Descriptions in 2008, since it lets you set your car's GPSr to find the station! -Paul Quote Link to comment
