+user13371
I'm looking for software that can analyze at a planned route or recorded tracklog and create an elevation profile. Is there such a thing, online or downloadable? Quote Link to comment
+Timpat
Take a look at this free program called GPS TrackMaker and see if fits the bill. It does create an elevation profile from a recorded tracklog. Quote Link to comment
+EScout
For GPSr recorded tracklogs, with saved elevations: SportTracks is a very nice program that will put your track on a map or aerial, and create several graphs including elevation. You can save the graph to a file or print it. I log all my hikes and it keeps distance totals for days, weeks, months and years. It also totals your elevation climb totals for these time periods (I see that my elevation total for 2007 was 75,256 feet and YTD 2008 is 32, 607 ft.) This programs takes data directly from Garmins. For others, like my eXplorist, convert your tracklog to .gpx format using GPSBabel. For Google Earth, run your tracklog .gpx file through Claude GPS2KML C_GPS2KML. This will create a track line that is color coded by elevation, and a graph of elevation. It can also insert photos at the spot you took them in a KML or KMZ file. For planning/creating a quick elevation profile, use National Geographic Topo. In seconds, you can draw your route/path/track and create the profile. Quote Link to comment
