darkavich Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Geocachers from Team Qualcomm are participating in the 2008 BikeMS Land Rover Miramar Bay to Bay Tour. This year we decided to produce a geocoin as a fundraiser. We have commissioned a coin from Landsharkz. They have done a wonderful job capturing our concept and producing this coin. We are really excited with the finished product. The coin is 42mm diameter and 3.0mm thickness. The edge of the coin is engraved with "Trackable at Geocaching.com". The word SHARKZ will be replaced with the tracking number. We are minting the coin with two finishes. They will be polished gold and polished nickel. There will only be 250 coins made this year. If we are successful in selling all the coins, we plan to commission a coin for next year as well. Here are the pictures of the proofs. The cost of the coin is $9.50 plus shipping. Shipping costs are estimated (more exact prices once we have the finished product) at $4.50 for the first two coins and $.75 for each additional coin in the same shipment. 100% of all proceeds will be donated to the National MS Society. Our Team web site can be found at http://www.pedalforthecure.org. and if you want to donate directly to our bike team, you can do so at: http://biketofinishms.com/darkavich If you are interested in purchasing a coin or two, please send me email. Thanks, -Darkavich Quote
darkavich Posted July 29, 2008 Author Posted July 29, 2008 We have received a shipping date of August 15th. We expect to have the coins a few weeks or less after that. Thanks, -Steve Quote
darkavich Posted August 5, 2008 Author Posted August 5, 2008 I forgot to mention that these coins will come with a PVC clear holder. With the delivery date coming closer we are taking reservations for pre-orders. Please contact me if your interested in ordering. My email address is: steve@yourservice.com Thanks, -Steve Quote
WRITE SHOP ROBERT Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 What kind of response are you getting? I'm in for 10 at least Quote
darkavich Posted August 5, 2008 Author Posted August 5, 2008 What kind of response are you getting? I'm in for 10 at least I have been contacted by a few people so far. A lot of my interest is from the local geocaching club in San Diego and the MS-Bike teams. Thanks, -Steve Quote
WRITE SHOP ROBERT Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 When you say "100% of all proceeds" that means the entire 9.50, right? Quote
darkavich Posted August 5, 2008 Author Posted August 5, 2008 When you say "100% of all proceeds" that means the entire 9.50, right? 100% of all the profits. The coins cost just under $8 to make. The difference will be donated to the MS-Bike ride in October. No overhead or handling fees are being charged, so all of the profits will go directly to the society. Thanks, -Steve Quote
chaosmanor Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Nicely done! We're in for a couple, at least. An aunt of mine died (in her late 70s) from complications of MS, so this is a cause that touches me personally, a little. I'll send an e-mail Quote
darkavich Posted August 6, 2008 Author Posted August 6, 2008 I wanted to update this because I have received a lot of requests about paying with paypal. At this time, we can't accept paypal. The company charges too much in transaction fees and I wanted to make sure that the MS Society get's the maximum amount of money. If I am able to get paypal to offer a charitable account with low transaction fees I will let everyone know. Thanks, -Steve Quote
handycapt Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 (edited) Hi, I am Handycapt. The name is kind of a private joke on myself since I suffer from multiple sclerosis. I don't consider myself handicapped......just Handycapt. Yeah, it's kind of lame I guess. I live on disability but was delighted when the Garmin 630's dropped in price. Now I don't have to carry around my car GPS. Geocaching has become my best motivation for getting out of bed and making myself walk (and walk and walk). I am thrilled to see your group trying to raise money for MS research. Keep up the good work. Regards, handycapt Edited August 7, 2008 by handycapt Quote

sheltiedogshowlover Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I'm interested in one of these. I have a very good friend (an aunt of sorts) who's husband has MS and our 4-H leader had MS and we always did the MS walk. Now I work in a nursing home with a group of younger folks who have MS and formed a "Hope Group". They volunteer in their wheel chairs handing out water at our local event. I have a Bike Against MS 2007 coin I got in a bulk purchase. Would like to add this one it in my book. Feel free to contact me. Quote
