Bowling Green, Green River, Mammoth Cave caches?

Howdy,

 

Our Boy Scout troop will be leaving in about a week to visit the Corvette Museum, camp at Mammoth Cave National Park, visit the caves, and canoe/fish the Green River.

 

We are looking for cool caches, especially caches with historical connections (please no hard puzzle or 12 step multis) around this area. We have Sunday afternoon, June 29, set aside for some geocaching and would like to get suggestions from local folks as to which caches to seek.

 

We'll be approaching the area from the direction of Nashville, if that helps determine which caches to suggest.

There is a good cache in the parking lot of the Corvette Museum. LINK

 

As for Mammoth Cave it has several Earthcaches, no actual container though makes it kind of boring for scouts, but they are educational.

If going through Nashville, try GC15VHM, its an Earthcache but might be a lot of fun trying to find the right spot and will prime you for Mammoth Caves.

I have a Earthcache very close to the welcome center that is educational. You must go to two spots to finish the cache. You can hike between the two point or drive to both of them. GCNEJP

 

I also have a nice virtual as you come into the park where you hike 1/2 mile on an elevated walkway.

If anyone has additional interesting suggestions of traditional caches, we'd be very interested. The troop is participating in a GPS/geocaching oriented camporee in the fall, and we're looking to get them some geocaching experience away from home.

I can vouch for Turtle's Earthcache being well worth doing--the hike is nice and the view is terrific. He has other caches nearby that have cool things to see and would teach a lot about navigation using a gps (A Walk Around Sloan's Pond) or historical geology (Downtown)...

 

If it's "containers and history" you want, the immediate area just isn't very good for that, but ...

Ghosts and Goblins is a virtual in a small cemetery in the park. It has historical value (but nowhere to trade trinkets).

That's a great picture, and some interesting looking ruins. Too bad for me that I wasn't a cacher when we visited the caves last summer.
