+Dragonfire870 Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 A few weeks ago we upgraded from our old Yellow eTrex to a new eTrex Legend HCx. We decided to do a bit of caching today, but when I turned the GPS on, it said "Acquiring Satellites" and nothing else. Nothing. That was it. No satellite icons, no bars, nothing. Just a blank screen with that text and the N-S-E-W markings. I'm not sure what could have happened. Two days earlier when I was downloading waypoints from GSAK it worked fine, and I haven't moved 600 or 6,000 miles (whichever one it was). I already e-mailed Garmin and am waiting on a response, but I really don't want to send it to them for repair since caching a day with the older unit was a pain enough (we had to use 3 GPS units -- long story). Have you tried a master reset? With the unit off, hold the "page" key down and the "click stick" down at the same time, then hold the on/off button in until it powers up. It will ask you if you want to continue and it will delete all your additions and set it back to the way it was from the factory. You will have to leave it outside for 20-30 minutes to get a new almanac. Quote
+Dragonfire870 Posted March 30, 2008 Author Posted March 30, 2008 That doesn't work. The unit doesn't even turn on. I also tried it with the unit already on, and nothing happens. Quote
+Dragonfire870 Posted March 31, 2008 Author Posted March 31, 2008 Anyone? I still haven't gotten a response to Garmin, but I don't understand why the master reset won't work. Quote
gitarmac Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 I had to take the batteries out of mine when it was locked up, then put them back in. Mine would not respond to any of the buttons. I have noticed that if I am in the house with gps off mode and turn it on when I want to get a sat fix, it seems locked up or it takes a long time to respond. If you take the batteries out and put them back in you don't lose any data. Quote
+GOT GPS? Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 From all the problems on the forums, I suspect that your GPS chipset software is corrupted, or the regular firmware in your Legend HCx. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloads...45&pID=8701 In the link above are links to the webupdater and the firmware. Run the webupdater, and connect the GPS, and turn it on, then go into webupdater, and see if it sees the GPS, then reloads the firmware. Updating the GPS chipset is the last step of the webupdater, where it asks you if you want to check for additional updates. If the GPS does not respond to the webupdater then it needs to go back to be fixed. Quote
