Didjerrydo
What exactly is the difference between software version so & so and GPS version so & so anyway? Quote Link to comment
+Timpat
The software (or firmware as they call it) is what operates the internal program of the unit, and the GPS software is for the GPS chipset. (Someone with more expertise in the lingo can correct my mangled description). Good to always update both to keep current. Quote Link to comment
John E Cache
One is written for the chip set processor and one is written for the GPS processor. The chip set has it's own Digital Signal Processor(DSP). They sometimes have separate copyrights in the copyright screen because one may be written by the chip set company. Recently the chip set copyright disappeared from the HCX, suggesting Garmin took over the chip set software writing. Quote Link to comment
