Which comes first - Location or Cache Idea?

I'm curious about whether most cachers hiding a cache first find a good location and then plan the type of cache, or do you come up with the idea for the cache and then look for a suitable location?

 

We've placed a number of caches, and sometimes we've found the location first, but more often we think of how we want to do the hide and then scout out possible locations. Most of our caches are in a rather congested suburban area, so it's not always easy to find a good place that hasn't already been used for a cache. I can't resist buying containers that look like they'd be interesting to hide, but I doubt we'll ever get around to using all of them!

I'd say both for me. I've found places I wanted to bring people to and then built a cache to fit. Then again I have come up with a cache idea and then went looking.

Gotta say the same...both!!!

 

I alwasy have a couple extra ready-to-go caches in the vehicle with me for those "locations" I just need to have...but i have also come across locations that need a special cache...

congested suburban area ! huge under statement !

 

sometimes the idea for a cache hits us first, maybe the cache handle, or the name of the area where the cache is to be hidden. other times the type is the deciding factor, if it will fit the hiding place or if the cammo' will blend with the area, some times the size of the container.

 

then there is the insant recognition of the "perfect" cache location! and you just got to stop the car to check it out, and can't wait to get online to check and see if it's already taken!

 

so many variables it's just mind warping ain't it?

My better ones have had the location first, but I have done it both ways.

I've seen places first then looked around to where I could hide something.

 

Or

 

I had an Idea then looked for a place to match that Idea.
