mrbeachroach Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 What do you think of a Mystery cache along the interstate, where you leave a sheet of adress lables, that people have to take and when they get home or where ever they are going they have to send you a postcard from thier hometown or favorite place they travled, to get credit for the cache? Mabey they would have to send it with thier geocaching screen name on it and when I recive it I would contact them that they could log the find? also mabey at the end of each month I could pic my favorite postcard and send that geocacher a special signiture swag or prize, for as long as the cache exist? what do you all think? what should I name this new cache? +StarBrand Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 That would have to be a ? type cache because of the ALR (Addtional logging Requirement). As long as you made it quite clear both at the cache and in the listing what the requirement is - no problem. Might even be interesting. Quote

+ReadyOrNot Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 It's an interesting idea. I'm not sure if I'd be real keen on a bunch of strangers having my home address though? Maybe if it was a PO box or something. Quote
+wiseye Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Call it "Home from the Highway" or You've got Mail!" Good Idea. Quote

+private bones Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Go for it, just use a PO Box. I had a fun cache like this where cachers brought a postcard, took a postcard, and then used markers (provided in the cache) to create a quick note or drawing. I also provided a roll of postcard stamps. The cache was next to a bench and a mailbox, so it was very easy to swap, jot, and post. When I picked up my mail at the POB, in between the bills and junk mail I would find funny, thoughtful postcards from geocachers. My approach with this cache was that it was all optional (NOT required to get a smiley), so I would say about 50% did the whole postcard deal and the rest were TNSL. Sadly, the cache was muggled when the bushes were trimmed back. I replaced it with a smaller cache and changed the theme to a stamp swap using a much smaller cache container shaped like a mini mailbox. Not as "interactive", not as well received. In retrospect, I shouldn't have changed it. But the smaller, less conspicuous cache couldn't fit the markers and postcards. I may have to restore it to the original idea cause I sure miss the funny postcards! Have fun with this and kudos for thinking outside the box (ammo that is) Quote
+whistler & co. Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 I like the idea! We would definitely enjoy finding a cache like that and sending the postcard. Depending on what your place of employment is, you might be able to use that as the address rather than your home address. Quote
+Nachtraaf Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 (edited) Or alternatively you can add one card with your address on it. The first visitor also puts a card in the cache with his address on and takes the one which is already in the box. Next visitor makes again an exchange, take a card, put a card (with his address) in, etc... This way all visitors get a postcard from the cacher which has visited the cache after him/her. In addition you should only get people who are willing to put a card in with their home address. And it's only one person who gets your address... So it is something like a chain mail with one mail... Regards, Hans Edited December 28, 2007 by weedboer Quote
+whistler & co. Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 (edited) That's a neat idea too! Unfortunately, you know some newbie would take the card and not leave a new one, or would take the card and not mail it, or would take the card and leave it in another cache, or something. Edited for spelling. Edited December 28, 2007 by whistler & co. Quote
B Boys Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 I think the idea sounds fun. I do have a problem with strangers having my address. It would add a new element to the game. Quote
