Basic mapping on a Garmin GPS

I am interested in the Garmin Legend. Can someone advise what sort of information can I expect on the basic (Europe) mapping. Does it show contours (10m?) and features like streams etc or is it just roads and tracks. Also the description for a waypoint how many characters long. (I found my old eTrex limiting with only 6 chars, I expect it may be the same)

My Vista is similar to yours in regards. Waypoints take 10 characters. I have MetroGuide installed; it has major rivers and lakes, but the base map, as I recall, does not. To get contour lines, you need Topo.

Major roads, city locations, and features. Here is a screenshot of a basemap segment including Paris. It will give you an idea of how minimal the basemaps have to be in order to fit.
