I found a bench mark here on West Virginia University, but I dont see it at geocaching.com. Its hard to read, and cant make out numbers or letters. Its a disc in a stone wall on the corner of Maiden Lane and North High Street on the Stalnaker Dorm side. If any one can help it would be appreciated. There is one disc that is suppposedly destroyed, but its location is only about 150 to 200 feet from the one I found, is it possible that thats it? In any case I would like to report it, but dont know how. My geocaching.com screen name is Frank n Beck. Thank you in advance for your help and efforts.

Are we talking about the same two sites you visited in May, 2006? Was this a revisit?

Notice that the mark you found previously has SCALED coordinates. They may be off by hundreds of feet. You can depend upon coordinates only if the mark has ADJUSTED coordinates.

(Think "A" for "accurate" and "S" for "somewhere".)

Ditto for the one which was destroyed by the construction of a 3-level parking garage. (See the description in the last official recovery (1983), which confirms the destruction which you suspected in your May 2006 note.)

Not really a revist, I work over there and was out walking and saw the BM and was just wondering how to determine which one it is, because I did not see a listing. Thanks for info, that helps, a little clearer now. I will go back and take a photo and post, maybe even try to clean a bit to see if I can make it readable. Again thank you. I often work with the people from physical plant, sometimes information is not acurate.

Please do.....We will be looking forward to seeing additional info. Meanwhile, we're glad to have you back on the Benchmark Hunting side of the hobby, after a year's absence. Looks like you got off to a great start in that church parking lot, with -60 cent- having to say, "Dad, back up the car. You're parked on top of the benchmark!" <_<
