gr85z Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 I am new to geocaching and have a couple of finds but am using my nuvi 350 which doesn't make it much fun since I don't want to drop it or anything. But I want a handheld that has topo maps with it since I really don't need the streets since I have my nuvi. Any suggestions. Want to try and stay under $200 if possible. Thanks Quote

Thanks I have a Nuvi 350 also and you right, it's not made for geocaching. Take a look at the Garmin Venture with the Adventure Pack (topo maps). I've seen it new on Ebay for under 200$. Good luck and have fun! Quote
+embra Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 Be forewarned that you will likely have to pay around a hundred dollars for topo software in addition to the GPS. They are usually sold separately. Quote

Now, he is not going ot be able to load a whole bunch of maps, but that will get him started. Quote
+Miragee Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 Something to keep in mind is that the B&W Legend connects with a Serial Cable, so if the computer doesn't have a Serial Port, additional money has to be spent on the USB to Serial adapter. Getting a Garmin 'C' unit that connects with USB would be a better option. Quote
+casey97 Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 (edited) Older versions of topo can be found for cheap. Since there is no unlock code, ebay is as good as Amazon. I use a Venture Cx (Color and USB connectable) which can still be found for $180, with a 1 gig card $10. edited for bad spellin Edited September 11, 2007 by casey97 Quote
