+Flah_and_Kids
Hi, I am debating buying a refurb unit from the US on Ebay for my first unit. The units in question are factory sealed from Garmin and have 1 year warranty. My only concern is regarding the maps. I don't know if the basemap in any US unit will work for caching in Canada. Has anybody bought units from the US? In specific the 60CSx? And were you able to use it right out of the box? I also posted on the Getting Started forum about a deal I found at Walmart. I was looking for opinions on the pricing. Thanks, FayeC Quote Link to comment
+bwmick
Basemap will be fine, I believe for both north and south america. The real question is more likely to be does garmin honour warranty on items sold on E bay. I am not 100% sure, you might want to look into it. (best place to ask might me at the units and software forums. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showforum=11 Quote Link to comment
+The red-haired witch
I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the basemap we get in Canada and the US is "North America", so it is the same one. Garmin does not make a different base map for Canada. (They have a different one in Europe, so getting your GPS from overseas could cause problems). Quote Link to comment
+Algonquin Bound
I bought my first unit, a Magellan, on E-Bay and never had any problem with the warranty. Not sure if Garmin would be the same, or not. I did, of course, eventually have to buy Canadian maps, to get detail, but in the beginning, I wasn't even aware there was such an option! +flamejobgrrl
I bought 2 refurbished Garmind Legend C models from GPS Central in Alberta. They came in a box with all manuals, cables and looked/work great. We use them in our classroom and have had no trouble with them. It was a great way to get a better model for a cheaper price (less freezies to sell at school). Quote Link to comment
