  1. Can you tell me how to cancel my premium membership. I am charged monthly and want to change to yearly in the spring when I start caching again. Thanks kindly flamejobgrrl
  2. Couldn't figure out how to load it on here so I changed my profile picture (I think). I have a compass rose on my ribs.
  3. Had a great day, night, and next day. Thanks for the great event. I am happy to have survived my first 24 hour marathon. Will look for it again next year. Now what comes next - oh yes - camping with you lot. See you in September.
  4. Couple of new caches placed in the area as I did a query to load up the GPS. Any plans to ammend the trip to add these (especially for those that have done some on the route)? Also - on the webpage do you have a route for this year's marathon? The google Earth route that currently loads for me is from last year in Kitchener/Waterloo. Thanks, flame
  5. The Golden Griddle will not allow dogs inside the restaurant. After the cache machine starts hitting the caches, it's not an issue. WOO HOO - then we will see how geodog is feeling in the morning of the event.
  6. Just checking out the attributes for the event - it says no dogs. Is there a reason why?
  7. My car has 1 free seat left (confirmed) carrgirl and hikerT). The estrogen express can take another from Trafalgar and the 401 or any logical pick up place from there out to Whitby.
  8. Having trouble figuring out what I have done. Everything was working great and then last time I tried to upload maps I got "Maps cannot be unlocked" on my Legend Cx. I have been using the same computer and program to load the maps, but only recently run into this "unlock" issue. Any ideas what I have done and how I can fix it?
  9. I bought 2 refurbished Garmind Legend C models from GPS Central in Alberta. They came in a box with all manuals, cables and looked/work great. We use them in our classroom and have had no trouble with them. It was a great way to get a better model for a cheaper price (less freezies to sell at school).
  10. Coming in from Halton Hills for the entire 24 hours. Could carpool with 3 or 4 people - anyone want a ride from Halton Hills, Mississuaga or TO? Could pick up at any of the carpool lots on the way out. Let me know.
  11. Picked up a set of 3 at Spring Fling III. The coins are amazing. Going to keep one (I think the one that your son likes best with the cartoon deers) and send the other two off and running. Great reminder of a fantastic co-FTF. Had to race out in the middle of the night to grab the cache. Good times.
  12. Anyone using Google Earth Pro? Is it worth it? If so why. Thanks, flame
  13. I tried to set up 2 while on a cruise in the Gulf of Mexico, only to find out after researching and writing up a great geocache that Virtuals aren't allowed anymore. Actually they haven't been allowed in a long time. I had no idea!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry - I tried!
  14. I am a teacher in a lower socio-economic area. I wanted to take my class geocaching, and have, but needed some units. I drafted a donation letter and sent it to parent council, Best Buy, FutureShop, Canadian Tire, Garmin, Magellan, and the Source CC. The most shocking answer I got was at the Source who told me "We don't do community involvement stuff, it just doesn't make good business sense". As I was leaving the owner called me back in to ask more about geocaching and why I wanted a GPS unit in the classroom. I hesitated but explained it to her - she said "huh - yeah - sounds great - still can't help you". I think it is ironic that they are now promoting their GPS units and toting geocaching as such a great hobby when they don't actually want to be a part of the community. To be fair, I know they are individually owned and operated, however, when you are a brand name you have a responsibility to at least refrain from laughing in a potential customers face. We have since fundraised by selling our organs, I mean hot chocolate, to buy a single unit from Garmin. Can't wait to take my kids back out in the Spring to place our own cache. flame
  15. What is terrible is the Diabetes TB's that have a nobel cause attached to them. Bad mojo for you pirate!
  16. duhgee and I found this tonight. I get a call at 7:30pm and off we go. We met halfway and then drove up together to try and see if we couldn't find it. We were all fluttery inside with anticipation (how nerdy I know - but it was FANTASTIC). Once we found the spot duhgee was quick to find it being the first to open GC10000. WTG! What a fantastic night - thanks for the cache and the forum posts to let us know that this one was more or less in our backyard. Can't believe it wasn't attempted before this (almost 3 weeks out there before found). In terms of it being luck that res2100 got the number - sure - but he, his wife and son would be considered local geocaching royalty and having hidden 111 published caches, he deserves it. Thanks res!!!!!!!!!!
  17. I was using cachemate, but I like the free version GPXSonar better. There are a few features that are superior on the free version over the paid version of cachemate. Best of luck.
  18. 5-Man electrical Band - 1970 Man, I must be old since I can remember it being played all the stinking time! But for now, after a bunch of DNFs or crawling across some hideous lava field or spider-infested shrubbery, I think AC/DC Highway to Hell works just fine. Or maybe Rolling Stones - You Can't always Get What you Want for all those DNF's
  19. My friend used to do a RRQFTD: Rock and Roll Quote for the Day - to sum up how things went in our communication book at work. In the spirit of the RRQFTD: Hemingway Corner (not sure if they are the original or not) - Signs Sign Sign everywhere a sign Blocking out the scenery breaking my mind Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign And the sign said anybody caught trespassing would be shot on sight So I jumped on the fence and yelled at the house, Hey! what gives you the right To put up a fence to keep me out or to keep mother nature in If God was here, he'd tell you to your face, man you're some kinda sinner And the sign said everybody welcome, come in, kneel down and pray But when they passed around the plate at the end of it all, I didn't have a penny to pay, so I got me a pen and a paper and I made up my own little sign I said thank you Lord for thinking about me, I'm alive and doing fine Of course there is also Woody Guthrie - This land is your land as a good follow-up to this one. Someone should make an official CD.
  20. Looked into the donorschoose site, however, they do not support my area. Thanks for the great link - I will watch for them to serve Canada. I love the idea of the donations. I had never even considered asking strangers for funds! We have been selling freezies in the classroom and have raised $50 this month, but donated half into the Terry Fox Run fund. We will keep plugging away with our fundraising within the school. Any help you can give would be fantastic. Eventually we are looking at 3 Garmin eTrex Legend type units (with mapping capabilities) for our program. I also want to develop a resource for teachers to use in order to maximize the use of GPS units within our schools. I have visions of the units being an AV type item that are signed out along with the resource guide. Donations over $20 with an appropriate address will receive a receipt from the school for tax purposes. Thanks again for the idea, I never would have asked on my own. Our school website is [removed by moderator] if you are interested in seeing more about our school. As we get into the school year the site will be updated and I hope to include information about the GPS program for people to see (especially if we receive outside donations). We did our first geocache huddling around my friends Garmin and it was fantastic. They loved every minute of it and were so excited to find something in an area of town they had never seen before. Next week we are doing a 13 part historical tour of our small town through a geocache. Our Principal has even mentioned wanting to come along. It started out as an initiative for just my class, but has already expanded to include other Special education students, teachers and administration. Please click on the following link if you would like to donate money towards the GPS program at McKenzie-Smith Benntt school in Acton, Ontario. Thanks kindly, Kristen MacKay [Paypal link removed by moderator]
  21. We are going on our first Geocache during school hours tomorrow. I am borrowing two units from friends to let grade 6-8 kids use (VERY NERVOUS). A tight school budget means no money there, but a proposal off to a literacy foundation was said to be "great" so we will see what happens with that. I hate seeing a project with such huge potential sink. I will keep plugging away. Our school is currently fundraising for new play ground equipment which means the community is over run with donation requests for this issue. Perhaps when we place our own cache using my friend's GPS we can get the paper on board and see if there isn't something that can be done. Thanks
  22. Very happy for you - I really am. I am in a poor neighbourhood. Our parent council has their goal of a 50 000 playground to replace the broken one. Our school started the year off in the red in terms of budget and money will be spent on more important things first. I will keep trying and selling freezies to raise money to buy our own. I appreciate the leads that I was given thus far. I hope something pans out! K
  23. I emailed once about the Etrex and then re-emailed asking how much you would ship to Canada for. Please see email or PM me here. I am interested in buying this for my classroom.
  24. I am looking to search by attribute to find those that are dog friendly, winter or night time caches. I think that this searchable field or have it as a limitor on a search would be a fantastic edition to your site. Thanks, flame
  25. So I have run up against a wall with donations. Tried Source, Canadian Tire, Future Shop, Best Buy, MEC, Bass Pro, Walmart, Garmin and Magellan. Many of these companies didn't even respond with a "regret" we can not help letter or call. One lead may be possible in January, but I am looking to get a unit into the classroom before that to start with. I can't believe that none of these places even agreed to sell them to us at cost. GPScentral in Alberta is the only company thus far that has been willing to do that. The problem is, raising enough funds to purchase a new unit. I have seen some good deals on basic units come up, but no one is willing to ship to Canada. Is anyone looking to part with their back-up unit for a decent decent decent price? I just saw an eTrex with some issues go for $25 - that is about the price I can afford to fork out for yet another item for the classroom. Better yet, donate your item to our classroom for a tax receipt!!!! My kids need hands on tasks because reading a textbook is out of the question. They also have a bad opinion of their town and I can't think of a better way to get them into their community and exploring parts they didn't know existed. I hope to get them to set up a cache and then track a "Communication" travel bug as it goes on its journey around the world. ...... Ok....rambling.....I just know this would be perfect and am running out of options. Please email me at flame_jobAThotmail.com or PM me here if you can help us out with either a donation or your old unit at $50, shipped, or less. Thanks, Kristen
